Cruising down the Nile, seeing ancient Egypt, from the pyramids of Giza to Abu Simbel.
Our first sites are the great pyramids of Cheops on the Giza Plateau from about 2500 BC.
From Cairo we fly far south to Abul Simbel, near the Sudan border.
On Lake Nassar is the Temple of Abul Simbel which was built in the 13th Century BC to honor Ramses II. The entrance has four colossal statues of Ramses II. A second temple is the Temple of Hathor located next to Abul Simbel, which honors Queen Nefertari. We wandered through the temples and heard the story of the gods and royalty.
Abu Simbel
Tarek, our amazing guide, explains the images.
We boarded the Prince Abbas on Lake Nassar and it was straight out of Death on the Nile. A beautiful boat. We also enjoyed the bar!
Leaving Lake Nassar we go through the locks at the Aswan Dam to enter the Nile River Valley.
More Temples in Luxor, a balloon ride and sailing in a Falucca.
